Aristobulus was a Jewish philosopher who lived in Alexandria during the second century B.C. He wrote commentaries on the Old Testament. Some of the early Christians believed that he was also one of the translators of the Septuagint.
According to Aristobulus, the fire [on Sinai] was seen while the whole multitude . . . were congregated around the mountain. Clement of Alexandria (c. 195, E), 2.487.
The eminent Aristobulus was one of the Seventy who translated the sacred and holy Scriptures of the Hebrews for Ptolemy Philadelphus and his father. Anatolius (c. 270, E), 6.147.
